Moya has been sewing and quilting forever. It's in her
genes and has become her passion. On her mother's side, her grandmother and great-grandmother were both quilters. But it skipped a generation, Moya's mother preferred clothesmaking and tailoring to "old-timey" quilting. On her father's side, uncle Gaston was an accomplished glove maker and is reputed to have made gloves for the (English) queen's doll house. And, her great-aunt made hats; she lived in the Bordeaux region and was sometimes paid in wine!! As a child, Moya made doll clothes and then her own clothes and later took up quilting and has been doing it ever since. Moya often incorporates printing and dyeing in quilts. Moya discovered the fun of applying color to fabric and added that to her interests. With apologies to Ogden Nash... quilting is dandy, but dyeing is quicker. A recent interest is using dyes and shibori techniques to "upcycle clothing." Dye your shirt! Make it new, make it you! Using a combination of old and new techniques, patterns are applied. Et, voila...a new shirt!. |
